Apple has unveiled its next smartphone, the iPhone 17, with a new Center Stage front-facing camera for portrait-focused auto-framing, and a 48MP dual-fusion camera system on the back. The display is larger and brighter with a 6.3-inch Super Retina XDR, and supports up to 120Hz variable refresh rate with ProMotion technology.
The enhanced Ceramic Shield 2 offers three times the scratch resistance and glare reduction of the original, with improved outdoor visibility with up to 3,000 nits of brightness outdoors.
The iPhone 17 features the A19 chip, which delivers more computing power and power efficiency than the previous generation. The 6-core CPU is 1.5x faster and the 5-core GPU is 2x faster than the iPhone 13, and each GPU core has a built-in Neural Accelerator to run generative AI models directly on the device.
With the new Adaptive Power Mode and power management optimizations in iOS 26, iPhone 17 supports up to 30 hours of video playback time, and with fast charging, iPhone 17 can charge to 50% in 20 minutes.
Camera-wise, all rear cameras are unified at 48MP, and the Ultra Wide lens offers four times the resolution than before. Dual Capture lets you record front and back simultaneously, and there's support for 4K 60fps Dolby Vision video recording, spatial sound, audio mixing, wind noise reduction, and more.
iOS 26 brings a smarter user experience with Apple Intelligence. Live Translation lets you translate text and speech in real time, Visual Intelligence lets you analyze and search screenshots, and the lock screen and home screen have a more personalized look.
Storage capacities start at 256GB and come in five colors: black, lavender, mist blue, sage, and white. Pre-orders begin on September 12, with general availability on September 19.
Accessories include a MagSafe clear case, a silicone case, and a crossbody strap. The strap is made from 1001 TP3T recycled thread and is available in 10 colors. Apple has also highlighted the eco-friendly design of the product as part of its Apple 2030 strategy, using 851 TP3T recycled aluminum, 1001 TP3T recycled cobalt, and over 351 TP3T of renewable energy for power.
