OpenAI has unveiled its next-generation AI model, "GPT-5," a major upgrade to ChatGPT. This version combines the rapid response of the existing GPT series with the deep analytical capabilities of advanced inference models, enabling it to perform a wider range of tasks with greater sophistication.
The biggest change is the introduction of an "integrated system." GPT-5 analyzes users' questions and situations in real time, automatically distinguishing between those requiring immediate answers and those requiring deeper thinking. This allows it to handle tasks ranging from simple information retrieval to complex analysis in an optimized manner.
Performance improvements are also notable. On the SWE-bench Verified real-world coding test, it achieved an accuracy of 74.91 TP3T, outperforming competing models. It also achieved a high score of 89.41 TP3T on the PhD-level scientific problem GPQA Diamond. In the medical information presentation, it significantly improved accuracy compared to GPT-4o by reducing the hallucination rate to 1.61 TP3T.
Creative capabilities have also been enhanced. GPT-5 not only writes reports, emails, and memos, but also enhances contextual understanding and expressiveness in creative writing such as poetry and congratulatory speeches, delivering natural and sophisticated results. Its "Vibe Coding" function, which creates websites, apps, and games that reflect a design sensibility, is also attracting attention.
In terms of safety and reliability, we reduced the possibility of deceptive responses from models and more accurately distinguished between malicious and benign requests, minimizing unnecessary rejections. Furthermore, we introduced a "safe completion" approach that suggests safe alternatives in sensitive fields such as health, science, and law.
To improve the user experience, ChatGPT now includes four conversation personality selection features: "Cynical," "Robot," "Listener," and "Geek." Developers can access the three models via API: gpt-5, gpt-5-mini, and gpt-5-nano. A new option to adjust response length is also provided.
GPT-5 is available to free users by default, while Plus and Pro subscribers have access to GPT-5 Pro, which offers higher usage limits and extended inference capabilities.
