Airstream and the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation have collaborated to create a mobile trailer that embodies the Usonian design philosophy. Usonian is a design philosophy that values harmony with nature and pursues efficiency even in small spaces. This trailer features wood finishes and 29 windows to create an abundance of natural light. Overhead storage has been eliminated and skylights have been installed on the ceiling to emphasize the harmony of light and shadow.
Beneath the rear hatch is a modular bedroom that can be converted into a king-size bed by combining two twin beds. The forward space is configured with a fold-down table and desk, which can be used as a living room or a secondary bedroom. Slatted lighting fixtures are mounted on the ceiling to maximize the skylight effect.
The colors are a mix of desert tones, including mustard gold, ochre, turquoise, and deep red, which Wright proposed in 1955. It will be built in our Ohio factory with solar panels and lithium batteries. Orders can be placed through Airstream’s nationwide network, with deliveries beginning in summer 2025.
This project is a collaboration that Airstream CEO Bob Wheeler envisioned 20 years ago, and was brought to life under the leadership of Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation historian Sally Russell. A total of 200 units will be produced, with prices starting at $184,900.
