Brooklyn, New York-based micromobility startup Infinite Machines has unveiled its second electric two-wheeler, the Olto. Starting at $3,495, it will begin shipping this fall. The Olto is a hybrid vehicle that functions as both an electric scooter and an electric bike, and is designed to be ridden on bike paths.
The Olto can travel up to 33 miles per hour (about 53 km), and is limited to 20 miles (about 32 km) on urban bike paths. The power is provided by a 750W rear hub motor, with a maximum output of 2 kW. The battery is a removable 48V lithium-ion battery, and can travel about 40 miles (about 64 km) on a single charge. The standard charger takes 5.5 hours, and the rapid charger takes about 3 hours.
The exterior design is clearly different from existing electric bicycles or scooters. The frame, with its curved silhouette and silver and black color finish, is made of a mixture of steel and aluminum and is also waterproof considering parking outside the city.
The Olto is modular in design, allowing for customization. It can be equipped with accessories such as child seats, panniers, and rear racks, and also supports a ‘pedal assist mode’ that allows driving without the throttle using the built-in pedal system. This function can be used to increase driving distance or for exercise purposes.
Security features have also been enhanced. It is equipped with real-time location tracking via GPS and LTE, a 98dB alarm that sounds when impacted, an AirTag slot, and a dual locking system to prevent theft. The main functions are controlled by a dedicated app, and it supports vehicle locking and unlocking, power mode change, and digital key sharing. Even if the main battery is removed, the auxiliary battery maintains the security system for up to 30 days.
The handlebars are equipped with a headlight, turn signal, horn, and reverse buttons, and a 4.3-inch display shows speed and battery status. The seat is spacious enough for two people and has a foldable footrest. The total weight is approximately 81 kg.
The Olto offers Class 2, Class 3 and Off-road modes. Class 2 allows throttle driving up to 20 mph, Class 3 allows pedal-assist driving up to 28 mph. Off-road mode allows unrestricted speeds of up to 33 mph. You can select the mode depending on your driving conditions and regulations.
Infinite Machines is a strategy to expand from the premium image of the P1 to a more mass-market product line via Olto. The P1 is a $10,000 electric scooter with a Cybertruck-like design and a top speed of 105 km/h, but its licensing requirement limited its appeal to the mass market.
Olto is currently available for pre-order with a $100 deposit, and those who pay in full will receive priority shipping.
