Opera Neon, AI Agent Web Browser

Norwegian web browser company Opera has unveiled a new AI browser, Opera Neon. This browser is not just a search assistant, but aims for 'agent-based browsing' that automatically performs tasks according to the user's request. It is characterized by AI continuing the project on behalf of the user even when the user turns off the computer.

The heart of Opera Neon is the 'AI agent'. The browser gathers information from the web, writes reports, builds websites, and even creates games and code snippets based on the user's instructions. This agent, built into the browser, is divided into three tabs: 'Chat', which talks to the user, 'Do', which handles reservations and purchases, and 'Make', which creates creative works.

The Chat function responds to questions and summarizes web page content like the existing Chat GPT or Google Genie, and the Do function automatically handles flight reservations, hotel reservations, online shopping, and form filling. The Make function creates creative works such as games or websites in real time. This process is all done on a cloud-based virtual machine, and the user can continue working even when offline.

Opera said that since this AI agent does not analyze the screen pixel by pixel, but operates based on the browser's DOM structure and layout data, sensitive data such as users' cookies, login information, and history are stored only within the browser. In other words, it is not transmitted to external servers, so it is safe in terms of security and privacy.

With this feature, Opera is hoping to go beyond a simple search assistant and become a 'digital assistant' that can take care of the user's time and labor. For example, if a user asks, "Create a stock site with a comparison function," the browser will collect relevant information, design it, and actually create and deliver the website. If an error occurs, it will also try to correct it on its own.

Opera Neon is currently only available on a waiting list, and no official release date or subscription price has been announced. However, Opera has stated that the browser will be offered as part of its “premium subscription” product.
