Figma has acquired Modyfi, a web-based motion design tool. This acquisition will accelerate Figma’s expansion into motion graphics and further its evolution into an all-in-one design platform.
Modyfi is a cloud-based tool that helps designers across a variety of fields create dynamic content. Featuring powerful graphic effects and flexible collaboration features, Modyfi has been providing a professional motion design environment for designers of all levels based on its 'Made to Move' philosophy of 'adding movement to design' since its founding.
Due to this acquisition, Modyfi will officially end its service on Friday, June 13. We strongly recommend that users export and back up their work before then. However, some animation files do not support exporting in a format that includes layers, and only image and video files can be backed up.
“We have been working with the Figma team for a long time and share a common mission of ‘making design accessible,’” Modyfi said in an official announcement. “Now, the two teams are joining forces to move forward together so that designers can go beyond their imagination.”
Modyfi’s brand identity is also notable. The ‘M’ symbol, inspired by the motion wave, symbolizes a state of constant movement, and the logotype is consistently reflected in all grids, layouts, and visual elements to convey bold, expressive energy. Additionally, custom modifiers from Modyfi’s own library of custom effects are directly integrated into the visual language, strengthening the connection between brand and product.
This acquisition will allow Figma to enhance the motion capabilities within its products and further expand into the multimedia collaboration space. Industry insiders are evaluating it as “a strategic move to present a next-generation design workflow that encompasses video and animation, rather than focusing on static UIs.”
