Apple CarPlay Ultra X Aston Martin

Apple unveiled its next-generation in-car infotainment system, CarPlay Ultra, on May 15. The feature will be available first on new Aston Martin vehicles, starting with models available for order in the United States and Canada. Existing models equipped with the latest infotainment system will be supported via a software update.

CarPlay Ultra integrates more deeply into vehicle systems than the original CarPlay. It integrates iPhone functions with vehicle control systems, allowing drivers to view and operate information on multiple screens in the car. It displays key data such as speedometer, tachometer, fuel and tire condition, and temperature on the cluster screen, and also provides maps and music information imported from the iPhone.

Drivers can control a variety of vehicle functions, including the radio, climate control, audio settings, and driving modes, via the touchscreen, physical buttons, or Siri. Information display formats are also included, allowing users to quickly check the information they need.

“CarPlay has transformed the way drivers connect with their cars, and CarPlay Ultra extends that experience in a more integrated form,” said Bob Borchers, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing.

“We’re excited to work with Apple to introduce CarPlay Ultra, which will give drivers greater control over how they configure and operate their vehicles,” said Adrian Hallmark, Aston Martin CEO.

Automakers can reflect their brand’s unique user interface, and drivers can individually customize theme colors and wallpapers. Hyundai, Kia, Genesis, and others are also planning to introduce CarPlay Ultra in the future.

CarPlay Ultra is a system that expands in-vehicle usability based on the existing CarPlay user experience, while maintaining the iPhone's privacy policy.
