Kakao Unveils AI Service 'Kanana'

Kakao has launched a new AI service called 'Kanana'. Kanana introduces a new concept called 'AI Mate'. It is characterized by understanding the context of conversations exchanged between users and providing information that fits the context. It works not only in 1:1 conversations but also in group chats, and gradually becomes more personalized as it learns individual tastes and usage patterns. Kakao defines this as a 'hyper-personalized service that understands me'.

There are two types of mates in the service. The personal mate 'Nana' remembers user information and provides customized responses, and the group mate 'Kana' performs various roles such as summarizing conversations, organizing schedules, and recommending information in chat rooms with multiple people. For example, when a running club schedules a competition, it automatically registers it and also provides course recommendations and reminder notifications.

You can also have a private conversation with Nana through 'Whisper Mode' during a group chat, allowing you to summarize the conversation or check the information you need immediately. You can also set your mate's personality and speech style to 'Professional', 'Mood Maker', etc., and you can also input the style you want directly.

In addition to Kanana, Kakao plans to continue to introduce various AI services. In collaboration with OpenAI, in addition to the AI Mate-based shopping service, the company plans to launch the region-based recommendation service 'AI Mate Local' within this year. In addition, an AI search service that understands the context of the user's request and generates optimal information is being prepared. In addition, the strategy is to develop AI agent technology across Kakao and build an AI ecosystem that works more closely in everyday life.
