Google's new logo: From blocks to gradients

Google has started to change its logo design. Recently, a gradient-style G logo with each color flowing naturally has appeared in the Google app for Android and iOS. However, this change has been done quietly, and the original design is still maintained on official images and other services.

The old logo was introduced during Google’s major rebranding in 2015, and featured distinct blocks of blue, red, yellow, and green. However, the new logo has a more modern feel, with each color blended more smoothly. The colors themselves also appear to be brighter and more vivid than before.

This change is notable because it is similar to the design language of Google's artificial intelligence assistant, Gemini. Gemini uses a gradient of blue, purple, and red as a visual symbol, which is also in line with Google's direction of focusing on AI-centered technology. The G logo of the Google app is also interpreted to be adjusted to match this trend.

This design can be seen on the Google app for iOS and the Android beta app (version 16.18.37), and was first discovered by some users who shared it on online communities. However, it is still too early to call it a complete brand redesign, as the favicon of the Google Chrome browser and official Google press images still maintain the old color block style.

What’s surprising is that this change is happening quietly, without any official announcement. This is in contrast to the 2015 redesign, when Google ran a campaign that explained everything thoroughly through its official blog and videos. Even minor changes to the branding of large companies are usually subject to numerous reviews and discussions, and for a brand that values unity and consistency, such a partial logo change is unusual.
