YouTube Jewels, a new way to support creators

A new feature for YouTube creator monetization is 'Jewels & Gifts'. Short-form viewers can purchase digital items 'Jewels' and send various animated gifts 'Gifts'. The graphic design was done in collaboration with buck_design.

Jewels are digital goods purchased in bundles that can be used multiple times without repurchasing. You can easily send 'Gifts' animations to express your gratitude and support to streamers. Creators who receive gifts will earn 'Rubies' as revenue, with 1 Ruby being converted to 1 cent. For example, 100 Rubies will be converted to 1 dollar.

YouTube hopes that these efforts will go beyond simple donations or sponsorships to encourage connections between viewers and strengthen emotional connections with streamers. The first set has now been implemented on the platform, and additional sets of animations with various themes will be sequentially released in the future.

Unlike existing Super Chats or Super Stickers, Jewels are animated and overlaid directly on top of the vertical live screen, maximizing real-time responsiveness. When the feature is enabled, existing Super Stickers will no longer be available on vertical live, and YouTube has stated that it plans to further diversify the forms and presentations of Gifts in the future.
