Meta has decided to change the content of the label that it attaches to content that uses AI technology from 'Made with AI' to 'AI Info'. Meta has been attaching labels to AI-generated content since May to distinguish AI content from other content. However, it did not work perfectly. Creators were suspicious of the effort because it seemed easy to create with AI, and users had a hard time distinguishing fakes because there was not enough information.

Photographers in particular have complained that the “Made with AI” label is being applied to photos that were taken using only basic editing software. One photographer said he had uploaded a photo he had taken on film during a basketball game 40 years ago and was tagged, presumably because he had adjusted the horizontal of the image using Adobe’s crop tool.

This is probably due to the difference in how metadata creation tools like Adobe’s Photoshop record images and how the platform interprets them. The symbol ‘cr’ that Adobe inserts into images with AI technology applied does not easily reveal which AI technology was specifically applied.

Meta has changed from Made with to Info to reduce the impression that everything was created by AI. The label appears in the same place, with a message explaining why it was applied and that the image may contain edits made using AI technology.
The new labels will start from the app and will be applied to the web, Facebook, Instagram and the entire thread, powered by Meta.
