American custom PC company MAINGEAR has unveiled its new limited edition desktop product, Retro98, which brings out the 1990s sensibility.
The Retro98 boasts a beige tower PC that looks like it came straight out of 1998, but is packed with cutting-edge components for 2026. The case is said to be based on the Silverstone FLP02 style, with legacy elements like a turbo button and digital display on the front.
The sales configuration is presented as $2,499 for the 5070 spec, $3,499 for the 5080 spec, and $4,999 for the 5090 spec based on the Quickship model. The top-of-the-line Retro98α is priced at $9,799 and features the RTX 5090, Ryzen 9 9950X3D, and 64GB DDR5 and a 4TB SSD configuration.
The base 5070 model is equipped with an Intel Core Ultra 7 265K and RTX 5070 combination. The mid-tier includes a Ryzen 7 9800X3D and RTX 5080 configuration, while the higher-tier includes a Ryzen 7 9850X3D and RTX 5090 configuration.
The custom water-cooled version, Retro98α, highlights its collaboration with Alphacool. Its signature touches, including braided cables and tubular coils, and a 5.25-inch drive bay coolant reservoir, are described as reminiscent of 1990s PC tuning culture.
This drop is limited to a total of 38 units, consisting of 32 standard units and 6 liquid-cooled units, and it has been announced that they will not be resold or reproduced.
MAINGEAR states that each product is hand-assembled and stress-tested by a single master technician before shipping. They also emphasize the company's team's long-term support, emphasizing that their products are not mere retro decorations, but performance-focused products capable of running current-generation AAA games.
