This is the redesign of the Thread wordmark and glyphs by Studio Nari. Meta needed a visual language that would allow Thread to be recognized as an independent social platform, moving beyond the initial impression that it was an extension of Instagram. The existing wordmark had a strong resemblance to Instagram Sans and lacked distinctiveness to create a voice unique to Thread.
The core of the new identity is the 'Trending Chisel.' This is a format principle where the ends are sharpened, much like a chisel or a chisel-tip marker. Through this structure, Studio Nari translated the speed, emphasis, and directionality of real-time conversation into a textual form. The letters feature a forward-moving slant and sharply defined ends, revealing the nature of a platform where conversations flow and spread rapidly.
The wordmark and glyphs make Thread appear not as a simple text-based social media platform, but as a platform for participating in conversations happening right now. Instead of a sleek and neutral tech brand grammar, a sense of hand-marked emphasis has been added. This creates a balance that is neither entirely rough nor overly decorative.
