Microsoft is changing its Windows 11 update policy.
Previously, updates could only be paused for a maximum of 35 days. With the new method, the pause can be continuously extended in 35-day increments. In effect, users can delay updates for as long as they want.
Even when an update is pending, the standard 'Shutdown' and 'Restart' options are always displayed. The previous method of strongly highlighting only 'Shutdown after update' or 'Restart after update' is reduced. When setting up a new PC for the first time, an option is also provided to enter the desktop without immediately installing updates.
Microsoft explained that it is not removing updates, but rather allowing users to control when they are installed. The feature is currently being tested in the Windows Insider Program.
