Ferrari has unveiled the interior and interface of its first all-electric vehicle, the Luce. Luce means "light" in Italian, and the company has officially adopted the new name, replacing its previously known development name, Elettrica. Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna explained that the name was changed to focus on the "Ferrari" experience rather than electrification itself. The full exterior reveal is scheduled for May 2026.
The interior design was handled by LoveFrom, led by former Apple chief designer Jony Ive and Marc Newson. According to the released photos and description, glass, aluminum, and leather are the core materials, and physical buttons and dials are actively placed instead of minimizing screen-centered operation. Numerous glass components, including Corning Gorilla Glass, have been applied to the gear shifter and surrounding areas, and a Samsung OLED display is used.
Luce's iconic feature is the 'key' experience. When the key pop, containing E-ink elements, is attached to the center console, the ignition interaction is designed to flow like the movement of light. The instrument cluster features a hybrid configuration combining an OLED screen and analog needles, while the central panel is introduced with a structure that allows for manual angle adjustment. Ive stated that, given the automotive industry's stringent regulatory environment, they focused on reviving the sense of connection between the driver and the machine through tactile operation while satisfying safety standards.
The industry is watching closely to see if the Luce will serve as a strategic turning point for Ferrari, targeting a new customer base. While the interior is evaluated as reminiscent of the precise minimalism established by Jony Ive at Apple, there are also reactions noting that it differs in tone from the rugged sensibility of traditional Ferraris. Pricing and final product specifications are expected to become clearer following the unveiling of the exterior in May.
