Amidst a resurgence in demand for vinyl, Sony has unveiled two new turntables, its first since 2019. With the PS LX3BT and PS LX5BT, Sony is emphasizing a listening experience that combines wired and Bluetooth connectivity.
Both products are fully automatic, starting playback with the push of a button and automatically handling tonearm movement and lowering. A transparent dust cover is included as standard, and they support switching between phono and line outputs, allowing you to adjust the connection according to your amplifier configuration.
The wireless function supports 96kHz 24-bit high-resolution Bluetooth audio based on AptX Adaptive. USB output is also provided, allowing you to transfer LP audio to your PC and convert it to digital files. USB recording supports three-stage gain adjustment.
The entry-level PS LX3BT features a moving magnet cartridge with a 3.5-gram tracking force. The higher-end PS LX5BT features a high-precision moving magnet cartridge with a 2.0-gram tracking force, emphasizing more precise playback.
The PS LX5BT supports detachable RCA cables and features an aluminum platter and rubber mat for enhanced vibration suppression. Some components and grounding design have also been improved, promising improved sound quality. However, cartridge replacement is limited to user-defined compatibility and requires service support.
The PS LX3BT is priced at $399.99 in the US. The PS LX5BT is priced at $499.99. Pre-orders for the PS LX3BT are open for February delivery. The PS LX5BT is scheduled for an April release.
