Sunday unveils housekeeping robot 'Memo'

AI startup Sunday has unveiled "Memo," a personal robot that learns real-life household chore patterns. According to foreign media outlets such as Globe Newswire, Memo, developed by Stanford University robotics majors Tony Chao and Chen Qi, is a home robot capable of performing complex household tasks such as loading dishwashers, folding laundry, organizing rooms, and brewing coffee.

The core of Memo is Sunday's self-developed skill capture glove. This wearable device records hand and arm movements, and the behavioral model for Memo was trained by collecting real-life data from over 500 homes across the United States. Sunday explained that Memo's greatest differentiator is that it learns from the unpredictable movements of real homes.

In the released demo video, Memo shows itself opening a dishwasher in a messy kitchen, loading dishes upright, and adjusting their position according to the shape of the dishes. It also neatly folds laundry and safely lifts a fallen vase. The company revealed that the most challenging task during development was loading wine glasses into the dishwasher, as they are difficult to control and break easily. While many glasses broke in the early stages, the latest version has completed the task flawlessly in over 20 public demonstrations.

Tony Chao, CEO, pointed to a lack of data as a key reason for the failure of home robot development. He explained that robots trained in laboratory environments failed to perform well in environments with numerous variables like the real home. Chao explained that using skill capture gloves, he was able to collect massive amounts of real-world data, enabling Memo to learn skills that people actually wanted.

Instead of a humanoid form, the Memo adopts a wheel-shaped rolling base structure. This provides a stable center of gravity and prevents tipping over even when the power is off. The exterior is finished with soft silicone, creating a design that blends seamlessly into any family space.

Sunday stated that Memo aims to help people spend more time on more valuable things. The company emphasized that Memo will be a turning point in the home robotics industry. Sunday is currently accepting applications for Memo's beta test and plans to conduct an initial test with 50 households next year.
