Timex has reissued its first LCD digital watch from 1975 for a modern look. This 'Q Timex 1975 SSQ Digital Reissue' captures the design and spirit of the SSQ (Solid State Quartz) model released half a century ago, while being reborn with a modern touch.
Launched in 1975, the original SSQ was the world's first to feature an always-on LCD display, addressing the inconvenience of LED digital watches requiring the press of a button to display the time. This technology allowed for the public to check the time at all times while maintaining normal battery life, introducing the concept of an "always-on display." The simple, understated stainless steel case and uncluttered digital display epitomized Timex's technological innovation.
This reissue model retains the original's aesthetic while refining the details. The 38mm recycled stainless steel case features a sunburst brushed finish on the top and polished sides, creating a vintage aesthetic with a modern sophistication. The navy acrylic lens emphasizes the 1970s' retro aesthetic, and the "SSQ" logo is prominently displayed at the bottom. The previously crown-style adjustment mechanism has been replaced with two buttons on the left and right sides for improved ease of use.
Equipped with a quartz digital movement that displays only the time, date, and 60-second timer, the watch is water-resistant to 50 meters. However, instructions advise against pressing the buttons underwater. The brushed stainless steel bracelet seamlessly blends with the watch body, enhancing its overall aesthetic.
The watch is priced at $159 and is available for pre-order on the official Timex website. Shipping is scheduled to begin between October 22nd and November 5th.
