OpenAI has begun development of a new recruitment platform to tap into the AI-powered talent market. On September 4, the company announced on its blog that it plans to launch the OpenAI Jobs Platform in mid-2026, a move that will bring new AI-powered competition to the traditional recruiting market dominated by LinkedIn.
"We will use AI technology to more precisely connect companies and job seekers," says Fiji Simo, CEO of OpenAI Applications. Rather than simply listing job openings, the goal is for AI to analyze a job seeker's AI skills and the company's specific needs to provide the best match. The platform will also provide practical recruiting assistance to organizations that struggle to find AI talent, especially small businesses and local governments.
Alongside the hiring platform, OpenAI is also launching a certification program to formally validate AI proficiency. Called OpenAI Certifications, the program is based on the OpenAI Academy and offers step-by-step training and assessments from basic AI tool usage to advanced proficiency. OpenAI has set a goal of formally certifying 10 million people in the U.S. in AI competencies by 2030.
The announcement comes at a time when AI technology is having a growing impact on the labor market, and OpenAI's commitment to providing more people with access to skill-based economic opportunities is seen as a sign of the company's intent. At the same time, however, some analysts believe that this will create a new competitive landscape, given that Microsoft, OpenAI's largest backer, already owns LinkedIn. In effect, the two recruiting platforms under one roof will split the market.
