Ahead of Apple's expected fall hardware event on September 9th, rumors are pouring in about the iPhone 17 series. This lineup is expected to feature a complete design overhaul, with the iPhone 17 Air billed as the "thinnest iPhone ever." Bloomberg's Mark Gurman predicts that this lineup will be the first step in a major iPhone redesign that will continue for the next three years.
The base iPhone 17 model will likely feature a larger 6.3-inch screen, a 120Hz ProMotion display, and a 24-megapixel front-facing camera. Purple and green may be newly added colors. The Pro model is expected to feature an aluminum frame instead of titanium to reduce weight and cost, and the rear camera may be redesigned with a horizontally elongated rectangular array. The iPhone 17 Pro Max is expected to boast the largest battery capacity ever, with a capacity exceeding 5,000 mAh.
The most anticipated model is the iPhone 17 Air, rumored to be 5.5mm thick. It's likely to replace the existing Plus model and is expected to feature a 6.6-inch display and a single 48-megapixel rear camera. However, its thin design could reduce battery capacity to less than 3,000mAh, and there's also the possibility of the bottom speaker being omitted. Color options are expected to be black, silver, and light gold.
iOS 26 will introduce a new "Liquid Glass" theme, replacing the entire interface with a translucent glass texture. It's expected to include a dedicated game hub app, real-time call translation, and improved battery performance. All models will feature the A19 chip with a vapor chamber cooling system and improved power efficiency, while the Pro model is expected to feature 12GB of RAM and support for professional camera apps.
Prices are expected to be $799 for the base model, $899 for the Air, $1099 for the Pro, and $1299 for the Pro Max. However, prices could fluctuate as President Trump threatens to impose tariffs on iPhones manufactured in India.
