Grammarly also uses AI agents to check A+ reports.

Grammarly has unveiled a new document-based interface and specialized AI tools, offering a comprehensive writing environment for students and professionals alike. Built on the block-first interface of Coda, a productivity startup acquired last year, the revamp offers a document-writing environment that allows for inserting tables and list headers and applying a variety of formatting.

The most notable change is the AI assistant integrated into the sidebar. Beyond simple proofreading, this assistant offers personalized feedback suggestions for summaries, allowing you to identify areas for improvement immediately after writing. Specialized AI agents for students and researchers have also been added. AI Grader grades assignments and provides feedback based on course materials and assessment criteria. Citation Finder automatically generates citations in various formats by searching for reliable sources. Paraphraser also tailors the tone and style of your writing to the reader.

They also introduced a plagiarism checker and an AI content detector, which are used as tools to help students and teachers verify the authenticity of manuscripts. However, the company emphasized that these features are not regulatory measures but rather self-checking tools, focusing on education and awareness-raising.

Platform expansion is also gaining momentum. In May, it secured a $1 billion investment from General Catalyst and recently acquired the email client Superhuman, expanding its reach into the communications space. This strengthens integrations with Google Docs, Outlook, and Slack, putting it in direct competition with competitors like Microsoft Copilot, Notion, and Google Workspace Duet.
