Leica has announced a special limited edition set, the 'M11-D 100 YEARS OF LEICA', to celebrate the brand's 100th anniversary. This set commemorates the era of 35mm cameras that began with the launch of the Leica I in 1925, and is characterized by the harmony between Leica's tradition and modern technology. Only 101 units will be produced worldwide, one of which will be permanently preserved in the museum as the 1 millionth camera in the Leica M system.
The M11-D features a brass top and base with a high-gloss black lacquer finish, nickel-colored anodized aluminum controls, and a thick natural leather cover. The red logo and strap loops have been omitted, and the conical bezel around the shutter button is inspired by the details of the Leica I from 1925, with an engraving of ‘Ernst Leitz Wetzlar’.
This limited edition set includes two 50mm lenses. The first is the Leitz Anastigmat-M 50mm f/3.5, a modern reinterpretation of the classic lens that was first featured on the Leica I. It supports the M mount, yet retains the feel of the original with its retractable construction, compact design, and nickel-toned anodized finish.
The second is the Summilux-M 50mm f/1.4 ASPH. lens, the pinnacle of cutting-edge optical technology that delivers exceptional sharpness and smooth bokeh even at wide apertures. This edition features classic knurling details and a nickel finish, ensuring both traditional design and performance.
The M11-D is equipped with the same 60-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor and Maestro III processor as the Leica M11, but boldly omits the rear LCD display to maximize analog sensibility. Shooting with the optical viewfinder and trusting the aperture and exposure meter brings the 1925 shooting experience back to the modern era.
The set includes a luxurious cognac-colored leather strap and protective case, an SD card case, and a luxurious wooden storage case with a black lacquer finish, made in Germany, and an exquisitely finished interior in creamy white Microvelour. Each set is individually numbered, and the ‘No 000’ edition with the serial number 6,000,000 will be displayed at Leitz Park together with the Leica I #126.
Exactly 100 years ago, in 1925, the Leica I was first introduced to the world at the Leipzig Spring Fair and became the standard for portable cameras. This M11-D 100th Anniversary Edition not only celebrates that great beginning, but also marks another historical milestone. With this limited edition, Leica is once again demonstrating its tradition, technology and craftsmanship to the world.
