Motorola has unveiled its premium foldable phone, the Razr Ultra. The newly released Razr series consists of three models: the existing Razr and Razr Plus, plus the new high-end Razr Ultra. The Ultra shows a bold attempt at design and materials, bringing back the iconic wood-grained back panel.
The Razr Ultra's most distinctive features are its appearance and feel. The back, made of real wood, is reminiscent of the Moto X of the past, and it also comes with dark red texture, magenta color, and soft-touch synthetic fiber Alcantara options.
It is a top-of-the-line Android smartphone, such as the Galaxy S Ultra series. The basic specifications are 16GB of RAM, 512GB of storage, and the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. It supports 30W wireless charging and 68W wired charging. The internal screen is large at 7 inches, and the brightness also increases up to 4,500 nits, improving outdoor usability.
The cameras have also been improved. The rear main, ultra-wide, and front selfie cameras all consist of 50 million pixels, and the Ultra can expect improved low-light performance due to larger pixels. The external display is 4 inches, the same as the Razr Plus.
In addition to the hardware, the unique AI function called 'Moto AI' stands out. All three models can use this function, and the Ultra has a separate physical AI button for quick access. Moto AI provides notification summary, memory storage, recommendation functions, and more, and the information search function has also been enhanced through a partnership with Perplexity.
The hinge has been upgraded with titanium material, and Motorola explains that it is four times more durable than the previous model.
All three models are rated IP48 for water resistance, meaning they’re water-resistant but still not perfect against fine dust. The base Razr retains the MediaTek 7400X chipset, while the Razr Plus retains the Snapdragon 8S Gen 3, with slightly better overall performance.
The pricing is the same as the existing models: $699 for the Razr and $999 for the Razr Plus. Pre-orders will begin on May 7 in the US market, and the official launch will begin on May 15.
