The design of driver's licenses has changed for the first time in 23 years. The Korea Road Traffic Authority announced on the 11th that new driver's licenses with enhanced security technology will be issued at driver's license examination centers nationwide.
The new driver's license features a color-changing ink that changes color depending on the viewing angle. It also has a holographic color change and a Rose of Sharon design, making it more difficult to counterfeit. The license background includes a raised image of the police symbol, the eagle, and a line drawing.
The Korea Road Traffic Authority explained that new driver's licenses have been issued since the end of January. 4.89 million people who are obtaining a driver's license for the first time in their lives and those who are eligible to renew their aptitude test this year are receiving new licenses. Existing license holders can also receive new licenses by visiting a driver's license examination center or applying for reissue online.
The official from the corporation stated that the security of driver’s licenses has been greatly enhanced through this revision. He added that the goal is to fundamentally block attempts at forgery and falsification by applying the latest technology. He also explained that the design change of driver’s licenses is expected to contribute to strengthening traffic safety.
Anyone who wants to reissue their driver's license can visit a nearby driver's license examination center or apply online. The procedures and application methods required to obtain a new driver's license can be found on the Road Traffic Authority website.
