Perplexity Comet, a new web browser that challenges Chrome

Perplexity has announced that it is developing its own web browser called 'Comet'. Pre-registration for the new browser called 'Comet' has begun via social media X. While the specific release date and features of the browser have not been disclosed, Perplexity plans to innovate in the browser market just like existing search services.

Perplexity looks set to rapidly gain market share based on its search engine users. The company has been expanding its business scope by releasing new products at a rapid pace in recent months. Earlier this month, it introduced a ‘deep research’ feature to compete with OpenAI, Google, and xAI. In January, it launched an AI assistant for Android and an AI search API.

However, Perplexity is in conflict with media outlets over copyright issues. Dow Jones and the New York Post, both under News Corp, have filed lawsuits against Perplexity, claiming that Perplexity is using news content without permission. The New York Times also sent a warning letter to Perplexity in October last year, requesting that it stop using content.

Perplexity operates a revenue sharing program to collaborate with media outlets and maintains a position of respect for copyright.
