Sigma has announced a new full-frame mirrorless camera, the BF. The camera features a 24.6-megapixel sensor and uses a 230GB built-in SSD for storage instead of a CFexpress or SD card slot. Sigma is a brand known for making unique cameras and lenses, and the BF is also attracting attention for its unique design and storage method.
The BF is machined from a single block of aluminum. The design is flat and angular, with minimal ergonomics. There is a small thumb rest on the back, a high-resolution display, a small status monitor to display settings, a dial for navigating the menus, an options button, a power button, and a playback button. The top is even more minimalist, with only two microphones and a shutter button.
The BF is compatible with L-mount lenses, and supports 6K video recording in addition to stills thanks to its 35mm full-frame sensor. It supports HEVC encoding and can record up to 120 frames. According to Sigma, the built-in 230GB SSD can store up to 2 hours and 30 minutes of video at high-quality settings, or 14,000 JPEG files or 4,300 uncompressed RAW images.
BF also offers a variety of color modes to help you adjust the feel of your photos. In addition to the standard and rich modes, it also includes color-based settings such as Powder Blue, Forest Green, and Sunset Red to help you create a variety of photo styles.
The BF may be appealing to those looking for a camera with a unique design, but it comes with a high price tag. According to photography publication PetaPixel, the Sigma BF will be available in two colors, black and silver, starting in April 2025, and will be sold for $1,999 for the body only.
