The project 'Zeitgeist' is underway to visually reinterpret the voices of citizens that have run through modern Korean history, from the April 19th Democratization Movement in 1960 to the recent martial law. 63 designer groups participated in this project, planned by the graphic design studio 'Everyday Practice', to create posters based on major declarations of the current situation. The participants attempted to reexamine the role of democracy and citizens through design work that reflects the crisis of democracy and contains the voices of citizens.
The project's work will be revealed through SNS such as Instagram from January 10th, and the website (manifesto.ing) will be opened on January 24th. In addition, an offline exhibition will be held at Realization Space in Samseong-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul from February 24th to March 17th. Admission is free, and anyone who aspires for democracy can view it.
The curator stated, “In a current situation where the historical lessons of democracy are fading, designers wanted to reconstruct the declaration of the current situation in visual language to remind us of the value of democracy.” The project focuses on drawing a vision of a citizen-led democracy that goes beyond a specific regime.
