Threads is getting a new search feature update. You can now filter posts by specific profiles and date ranges. Searching Threads previously used to be a way to find popular or recent posts by keyword, but now you can do more sophisticated searches.
When users tap the settings icon, filter options such as “After date,” “Before date,” and “From profile” appear. Adjusting the options allows for more precise searches to target specific points in time or accounts.
This feature is limited compared to the advanced search capabilities of competing platforms like X and Bluesky, but it provides a much-needed convenience for Thread users. The new search feature will be gradually rolled out to users globally in the coming weeks.
This latest update to Threads appears to be part of a response to competition from Blue Sky, which has recently seen a surge in user numbers, reaching around 24 million users. Meta is quickly rolling out a number of new features to Threads, including custom feed selectors, design changes to make it easier to switch between feeds, and algorithm updates.
Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri recently announced that Meta is testing improvements to this filter and search tool, and that it will now be available to all users worldwide. This update marks a major turning point for Threads as it improves the user experience and closes the gap with competing platforms.
