I want to create design principles that will endure over time. But nothing is immortal. How can we make an impact in 10, 100, or 1,000 years? I thought that I was happily studying and recording design on my own, but it wasn’t enough to make a big difference. I thought about how I could help more people create better designs. In that sense, Wikipedia seemed like an attractive model. I thought that anyone could participate and contribute knowledge, and that keeping the most up-to-date information could be an excellent guide for good design that would endure over time. I had been thinking about it for a long time, but I finally made a big decision and invested time to create the design compass Wikipedia.
I hope this becomes a space where anyone can easily learn design and get inspiration for creation. The biggest reason why people hesitate when they want to create something new is probably the fear of the unknown. The anxiety that they might not know what will happen and that they might just waste time. Learning will play a big role in overcoming this obstacle. The first step to learning is to know what I don’t know. However, this knowledge is not easy to access. There are times when there are no people to ask around and there are times when it is not good to search on the Internet. I hope this space can remove the obstacles to the first step of creation. And furthermore, I hope that we can be inspired, learn, create, share, and grow together. I believe that we can create a better design language together and add better value to the world.
No one knows where this space will go in the future, but it is clear that we need a lot of help to grow in a better direction. You can contribute to the wiki by adding knowledge, or you can give us good ideas for operation. If you think you can help Wikipedia move in a better direction, you are always welcome.
Then please give us a lot of attention!
