ChatGPT Space, a new logo capturing the universe

OpenAI introduced ChatGPT Space at DevDay on September 29, 2026. It is a feature that brings pages, files, and shared work together in one place. Users can create and directly edit documents with ChatGPT. They can also invite colleagues to edit together or leave comments. It is a space to save the results of conversations and continue collaborative work.

The Dock icon, introduced with the launch of Space, captures the blue and purple universe. In the provided settings screen, the existing ChatGPT logo, Codex icon, and Space icon are placed side by side. This configuration allows apps to select the image they will use in the Dock. The three icons display different modes of expression: lines, symbols, and textures.

The existing ChatGPT logo is in the shape of a knot with six interlocking stripes. Black lines and white space create the structure. It is identified by the connection of repeating lines rather than color or surface texture. Even at small sizes, the outline and the internal empty space distinguish the form.

The Codex icon features a '>' symbol reminiscent of a command line and an underscore inside a rounded blue and purple mass. It connects code writing and development work through these symbols. Moving away from the flat line representation of the previous logo, it expresses volume using gradients and light.

The Space icon uses a rounded outline similar to the Codex while filling the interior with images resembling stars and nebulae. The glass-like, shimmering border and overlapping colors create depth. It can be interpreted as a visualization of the workspace signified by 'Space' as the universe, another meaning of the word.
