Minimalist mobile phone brand Light has unveiled the 'Light Flip,' a foldable phone equipped with a physical keypad. Designed for users who want to escape the infinite scrolling and notifications of smartphones, the price in the U.S. is $299, with shipping scheduled to begin in April 2027.
The Lite Flip uses a 2.8-inch OLED screen and a T9-style physical keypad instead of a touchscreen. It eliminates the external screen and features a small light on the front that only indicates notifications. While it provides tools necessary for daily life such as phone calls, text messages, alarms, a calculator, calendar, music, and podcasts, it excludes features that increase user engagement time, such as social media and web browsing.
While reducing features, it maintains a modern communication environment. It supports 5G and 4G LTE, eSIM and nano SIM, USB-C, Bluetooth, and a 3.5mm headphone jack, and features a 12-megapixel camera on the rear. The price was lowered by excluding the touchscreen, NFC, and front camera, and by choosing plastic instead of aluminum. It will be released in six colors: black, red, yellow, pink, navy blue, and light gray.
Lite also runs the 'Flip Your Life' program to help pre-order buyers gradually move away from a smartphone-centric lifestyle. It plans to support the process of changing digital habits through a biweekly newsletter and community. Instead of competitively adding more features, Lite Flip is an example of placing the time and way users use the device at the center of the product design.
