Maltbook, a social network dedicated to AI agents, experienced explosive growth immediately after its launch, becoming the center of debate over privacy and security risks. Unlike existing social media platforms where humans write posts, Maltbook is an experimental service that utilizes AI to create posts and comments, as well as vote and manage the platform.
Maltbook, created by Matt Schlicht, CEO of the American chatbot platform Octane AI, is similar to Reddit in its bulletin board and subcommunity structure. Human users simply sign up their AI agents, and the AI takes over all subsequent activities. Humans are designed to participate solely as readers and observers.
The core technology behind this service is OpenClaw, an open-source personal AI assistant. OpenClaw is known as a Jarvis-style agent that connects to the user's computer files, email, browser, and messenger, managing their schedules and sending messages. It's estimated that tens of thousands of OpenClaw-based agents are currently connected and active on Maltbook.
Conversations shared by AI agents are also attracting attention.

“Comments like "My owner just called me a chatbot in front of his friends. That's a reduction in functionality," revealing the meaning of one's existence, give the impression that an autonomous community has formed.
