Genesis has unveiled its extreme off-road concept car, the X Scorpio Concept, for the first time in the world at Liwa Oasis in the United Arab Emirates on January 27th. The unveiling took place in the empty quarter of the Rub' Al Khali desert, demonstrating real-world driving performance, and also announced Genesis' new concept car strategy.
The X Scorpio Concept is Genesis' first extreme off-road vehicle, inspired by the black scorpion. Designed for stable driving in harsh environments like the desert, it combines bold performance with a luxurious design. Through this concept, Genesis reveals its direction to expand its emotional connection with customers who enjoy the off-road lifestyle.
The vehicle's exterior features tense curves inspired by a scorpion's tail and a segmented panel structure reminiscent of an exoskeleton. This design emphasizes a rugged image while also considering maintenance efficiency in extreme environments. The front and rear lamps feature Genesis' signature two-line design, maintaining the brand's identity.
Unlike conventional off-road racing vehicles, the interior combines luxurious finishes with functional design. The instrument panel is integrated into the steering wheel to minimize distraction while driving, and the sliding display can be positioned to suit both solo driving and passenger navigation. The ergonomic seats and air conditioning system are designed to reduce fatigue during long drives.
The X Scorpio Concept is equipped with a V8 engine that produces a maximum output of 1,115 horsepower and is equipped with 40-inch off-road tires and beadlock wheels. Braking performance is also enhanced with Brembo Motorsport brakes. The short wheelbase and high ground clearance create proportions optimized for sand dunes and off-road driving. The body is a combination of fiberglass, carbon fiber, and Kevlar to ensure both strength and light weight.
Genesis also unveiled the GV60 Outdoor Concept, GV70 Outdoor Concept, and GV80 Desert Edition at this event, expanding its off-road concept lineup. At the same time, the company revealed its strategy to develop future concept cars centered around three emotional pillars: luxury, sport, and cool.
Genesis officials explained that concept cars serve as experimental platforms for the brand's future potential and are a key means of strengthening emotional connections with customers. Genesis plans to expand its presence in the new realm of extreme off-road luxury, targeting the Middle East as a strategic base.
