LG Cloid, a robot that folds laundry and empties dishes.

LG Electronics unveiled "CLOiD," a humanoid robot designed to assist with household chores, at CES 2026. Following a preview last week, LG unveiled the first actual product on January 5th, describing it as an AI robot designed to perform household tasks such as folding laundry, emptying the dishwasher, and serving food.

Cloid features a round, cute head unit. The head is equipped with a display, speakers, a camera, and various sensors. LG says this configuration allows it to communicate with people through voice conversations and facial expressions, learn about the user's living environment and patterns, and control connected appliances based on the learning results.

The upper body is equipped with two robotic arms. They feature shoulder and elbow joints, and the fingers are designed to move independently. While no images have been released of the floor-moving unit, it reportedly uses wheels and uses technology similar to that of a robot vacuum cleaner. However, the arm's ability to pick up objects is limited to knee height, meaning it will be difficult to immediately pick up objects that have fallen on the floor.

LG will demonstrate its robot in various scenarios at the exhibition, including starting a laundry cycle and organizing laundry. Images released also show the robot removing a croissant from the oven, unloading a plate from the dishwasher, and serving it. A cut of the robot standing next to a person during a home workout was also released, but the specifics of how it will assist are not yet known.

CES 2026 will be held in Las Vegas, USA, from January 4th to 9th. Once the on-site exhibition begins in earnest, we'll be able to see Cloid's laundry-folding performance and the completeness of its actual operation in greater detail. However, LG seems to be presenting this unveiling as a concept rather than a product sales plan. The company stated that it will continue to develop home robots with practical functions and form, and has indicated its intention to expand its robotics technology into home appliances such as automatic refrigerators.
