Spirit Crossing, a new Netflix game that resembles Animal Crossing

Netflix has revealed its first self-developed MMO, Spirit Crossing, at a press conference at GDC 2025. It was developed by Spryfox, a studio Netflix acquired in 2022. Spryfox is a developer that has created unique mobile puzzle games such as Alphabear and Triple Town.

'Spirit Crossing' is a cooperative town life simulation game. In the game, players build friendships, grow communities, and play a role in warming the world. The graphics are pastel-colored and feel like a mix of Ghibli, Animal Crossing, and Adventure Time.

According to the teaser trailer released, players can enjoy a variety of activities such as exchanging gifts, fishing, hang gliding, and riding animals. They can also decorate their homes and villages, gather resources with friends, and form bonds through playing music. The game’s closed alpha test is currently accepting applications.

Netflix is strategically launching games by dividing them into four categories. The main categories are story-based games, multiplayer party games, children's games, and popular games. 'Spirit Crossing' falls into the popular game category. Netflix plans to expand its platform so that games can be enjoyed on smart TVs in the future. Currently, it is only available on mobile devices, but it is developing a system that allows you to play games on TVs using your smartphone as a controller.
