Hyundai Motor Company's luxury brand Genesis has officially announced its entry into motorsports. At the 'Genesis Motorsports Premiere' event held at the Armani Hotel in Dubai, United Arab Emirates on the 4th (local time), Genesis unveiled its racing team 'Genesis Magma Racing' and its high-performance racing car 'GMR-001 Hypercar'. The logo utilizing the Korean initials of the Magma brand that was also revealed stands out.
Genesis will enter two cars in the 2026 World Endurance Championship (WEC) and the 2027 WeatherTech Sports Car Championship (WTSCC). The GMR-001 hypercar unveiled this time features Genesis’ signature two-line design and aerodynamic structure, as well as a variable spoiler at the rear.
Genesis has signed Andre Lotterer and Luis Felipe Derani as its racing team drivers. Lotterer is a veteran with 84 wins, while Derani has won the 24 Hours of Daytona and the 12 Hours of Sebring.
Luc Donckerwolke, Chief Creative Officer of Hyundai Motor Group, said, “Motorsports are an opportunity to strengthen the progressive values of the Genesis brand.” Song Min-gyu, Head of Genesis Business Division, emphasized, “We will apply the technology acquired through motorsports to mass-produced vehicles,” and “It will elevate the Genesis brand status to the next level.”
