To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the PowerShot series, Canon is introducing a limited edition model of its most popular compact camera, the PowerShot G7 X Mark III.
Canon announced on the 4th (local time) that it will release the PowerShot G7 X Mark III 30th Anniversary Edition in April. This limited edition was planned to commemorate 30 years since the PowerShot series was first introduced in July 1996. The PowerShot 600 released at that time used a PC card because SD cards were not yet invented, and was equipped with a 570,000 pixel (less than 1 megapixel) CCD sensor.
First released in 2019, the G7 X Mark III has become wildly popular among social media influencers and has become extremely scarce. Despite Canon's repeated production increases, stock remains difficult to come by. Currently, it's difficult to find at full price at major US retailers.
This limited edition model offers the same performance as the original, but with a unique exterior design. The top cover has been redesigned to a graphite color, and the camera surface features a diamond-patterned texture. The top of the camera is engraved with the PowerShot 30th Anniversary logo.
The camera's internal specifications remain unchanged. Key features that have made it popular on social media, such as the 1-inch sensor, 4.2x optical zoom lens, and powerful built-in flash, remain unchanged. The 20-megapixel stacked CMOS sensor, DIGIC 8 processor, and 4K 30p video recording capabilities remain the same. The 24-100mm (equivalent angle of view) F1.8-2.8 built-in zoom lens remains the same.
Regional sales methods also vary. In the US, the camera is sold through a lottery, with only the winning buyers receiving the camera. Some retailers also accept a small quantity, but each store determines its own sales method. The price is $1,299 (approximately 1.8 million won), $419 more than the standard $879 model. The US version includes a limited edition Peak Design wrist strap and a 32GB memory card.
