Handcrafted bird motif designs are garnering attention for the holiday and winter seasons. Japanese handmade artist umitukihituji's series of pouches and bags meticulously observes the shapes and movements of birds, translating them into everyday objects. The artist's close-up perspective on nature is fully reflected in the shapes, volumes, and expressions of the pieces.
The new Winter Dove Pouch is inspired by the image of a dove curling up, its neck hunched over when feeling the cold. Despite its small size, the pouch is designed with a deep and generous chest area for a sense of volume, and the zipper opening is enlarged for enhanced usability. The rounded silhouette, when held in the palm of your hand, delivers both visual and tactile pleasure.
The Gentoo Penguin bag, reimagined after two years, was also unveiled. The third-largest of the 18 penguin species, the Gentoo penguin's lively personality is captured in the form of a flipper, with a lively expression. Known for its fast swimming and terrestrial running, the design seamlessly incorporates the characteristics of this species, while its size is perfect for storing a smartphone and wallet.
The new highlight of this project is the Okameinko Normal Color Shoulder Bag. Based on a previously produced Okameinko bag, this time, we've recreated it in a more voluminous size. The plump, stable shape, coupled with a smiling expression, creates a design that will bring a smile to anyone who sees it.
Each piece is handcrafted entirely by the artist. While production quantities are limited, this ensures a high level of precision in form and detail. The Okameinko shoulder bag will be unveiled for the first time at the 8th Kotori Expo, held at the Kakashigawa Hanatouri Garden on February 1st and 2nd, 2025.
