Figma has officially released Figma Make, its AI-powered app prototyping tool, to users worldwide. Previously available only to users on its paid "Full Seat" plan, this update allows anyone to use Make to create interactive apps without coding.
Figma Make is a tool that allows you to create prototypes or working apps using natural language prompts. Users can simply type in phrases like "Create a dashboard to collect user feedback," and design elements are created. It also supports backend database integrations like Supabase. Existing design systems can also be imported, providing a practical workflow for both designers and developers.
As a prime example, the Figma research team used Make to create a user survey traffic calculator. The researchers implemented the interface, which included complex numerical modeling, in just an hour and a half, and the prototype played a key role in coordinating research strategy and collaboration across teams. “It gives everyone a common ground as users, and it gives us an environment where we can make clear decisions,” says Tara Nadella, Figma product manager.
Make is useful not only for designers but also for product managers and developers, allowing them to test complex interactions and create practical mockups for feature discussions. "It allowed us to quickly prototype grid layouts and made collaboration with developers much smoother," says Kelly Hu, a product designer at Figma.
Figma has also completed its beta phase and officially launched its image creation and editing features, as well as a feature for improving the quality of low-resolution images. AI-powered features operate on a credit system, with monthly credits varying depending on the user plan. Full-seat users currently enjoy unlimited access, but a credit purchase system will be introduced later this year. Starter, View, Collab, and Dev seat users are granted access to Make in draft mode, while the file publishing feature is currently only available to Full-seat users.
