French artist 8TH PROJECT is gaining attention in the art world by reinterpreting iconic characters from popular culture using geometric shapes, lines, and colors. Characters loved around the world, such as the Pink Panther, Mickey Mouse, and Pikachu, are reborn as abstract and unique silhouettes through his hands, giving a fresh shock.
8TH PROJECT has been based in Yucatan, Mexico since 2019 and has been developing a unique visual language. He has created his own style by pursuing visual balance without being bound by structure. The foundation of this work is influenced by art masters such as Wassily Kandinsky, Pablo Picasso, and Paul Klee. His unique formative language transforms familiar icons of popular culture into geometric sculptures with a modern sensibility, attempting to communicate with the audience in a new way.
8TH PROJECT's artistic journey begins with his name. Born in Lyon, he grew up in an ordinary family far from art, and before becoming an artist, he went through seven different non-art projects, including restoration and Reiki. The name '8TH PROJECT' symbolically contains the artistic fruits he gained after going beyond these challenges. He has grown by using the values and resilience he learned from his failures and experiences as the driving force behind his art.
His world of work began in 2020 with marker pens and printer paper. Since then, he has added depth through research on art history and style, and especially emphasizes the influence he received from Kandinsky. 8TH PROJECT's work starts from an unstructured perspective that deconstructs and reconstructs reality. He actively reflected the theory of Gestalt, a form psychology, in his work, seeking the most perfect harmony through shape, color, and composition.
Asymmetrical structures, vivid colors, and complex yet orderly compositions have become his signature. The characters in his work are not mere imitations, but graphic interpretations reborn through the harmony of shapes and colors. This way of working allows modern audiences to experience familiar symbols of popular culture in a completely new way.
In just 3 years, 8TH PROJECT has gained attention from the art world and continues to collaborate with global projects. He emphasizes the importance of the community that accompanies his journey and plans to continue expanding his artistic world through new attempts.
