Yeonnam-dong, their sparkling dreams 1 – Dessert & Coffee

My husband and I change our place of residence every two years because we want to experience a variety of fun things in the world. There was a big difference between passing by and living. Just because the end was set, the density of time also changed. Now it feels like taking a long trip rather than living in the neighborhood.

Until last week, I lived in Yeonnam-dong. It was a strange feeling to live with a partner in a place where I used to live alone in college. I was able to feel things I hadn't felt that I took for granted, and I was able to meet a space that I couldn't find because I didn't have time to spare.

There are many small shops filled with their own tastes, so it was like looking at a boutique in Paris. Each time I got to know them, it was like finding a jewel in a huge jewelry box. I knew what a blessing it was to have a beautiful long stretch of park nearby. Mountains of moderate difficulty and rivers where you can jump lightly to see the Han River also gave new pleasure.

Yeonnam-dong, where the dreams of creative people and the nature that made extreme introverts take a walk every day. I looked back at the memories engraved with eggs.

A sweet dessert that will make you forget what you've eaten so far

For dessert, Pringles was enough for me, so Yeonnam-dong's dessert was a taste shock. It must be similar to the shock of a young man who loves pork rice bowls when he ate Itanic Garden for the first time. I had the pleasure of discovering a new kind of dessert that I hadn't tried before, but also the pleasure of discovering a variation of the same kind in my own way.

paris hole

This store opened when I moved to Yeonnam-dong, and is the first store that comes to mind when thinking of Yeonnam-dong. Thank you for teaching me that this is a delicious dessert! The harmony of the lemon base flavor and the excellent bread is delicious, and the set to eat with cream on the baguette is eaten in one bite. The best-selling Choywa Ensemble, which survived after countless studies, is a must-try. From Hongik University Station, walk along the Gyeongui Line Forest Park, cross the road to the left, and walk a little further.

From Deep Green

This is a dessert shop that I could reach by walking one block from where I moved. When I took a bite of Earl Gray Madeleine, I thought, 'Ah... What on earth was the Madeleine I ate so far?' This is where the word came from. Moderately crispy on the outside and fantastically moist on the inside. If you leave it for a day and then eat it, it will become more chewy and moist. It is located in the alley behind Hongik Design High School and Gyeongseong Middle and High School.

Anyb

This is the king of desserts in Yeonhui-dong. Delicate craft-like designs and flavors are rich and deep. Various techniques of expressing the taste of desserts, such as hard and soft, dry and moist, are melted into one dessert. From picking up the dessert with the fork to your lips, through your teeth and onto your tongue, every step feels like a drama. Certainly, it would be hard to find a more delicate dessert in Korea. The store in Yeonhui-dong is in the alley next to the mart.

Lavoir

This is a small and cozy dessert shop named after a small town in southeastern France. I stopped by when it opened and wondered who made the sensuous logo, but I was surprised to hear that it was designed by you. I thought the dessert would be great with this sense, but it was the answer. As I took a bite of the vanilla caramel mille-feuille, the famous Parisian patisserie Pierre Hermé thought it was time to go. My tongue was delighted with the cream that was not too sweet and had a complex taste, and the thousands of layers of crunchy mille-feuille. Tuk Tuk Noodle Thai is located in the back alley.

Pietra

This is a gelato shop in Endnam-dong. How far can you go with ice cream? This is where I think. It is a creative shop that carefully selects ingredients after careful consideration and combines them to deliver a much richer natural taste. The taste of nuts is unique. Bronte Pistachio and Sosanwon Matcha are shockingly delicious. On a slightly hot day, buy a gelato and walk around Yeontral Park.

17 degrees

The king of chocolate. I've been waiting for the chocolate ice cream season to come. Unfortunately, ice cream is not sold in winter, so it was sad. Other than ice cream, hot chocolate and chocolate bonbons are different from ordinary chocolate. Bingsu is also highly recommended. It's not just a sweet taste, it's a place that in-depth researches and delivers the real taste of 'chocolate', where you can feel the bitter and sour taste unique to cacao. It's on the right after going about two blocks from Yeontroll Park past the Yeonnam police box.

Coffee, a sweet, bitter and sour taste that reads the narrative

Coffee is an indispensable dessert. I heard that Korean coffee culture is deep, but I didn't expect it to be so diverse and delicious. It is fun to compare signature coffees made by roasting different types of coffee beans.

The recent espresso bar has pushed the limits of what coffee can taste like. The experience of drinking strong espresso like a cocktail in a cute space was thrilling. In addition, brewing coffee every morning has become a pleasure rather than a hassle.

Mr. and Mrs. Coffee Stand

This is the first espresso bar I encountered in Mangwon-dong near Yeonnam-dong. This place taught us, who only knew Americano or latte, how different types of coffee taste and how they taste when combined with other ingredients. It is an original in my heart that I will continue to visit even after time has passed. Lemon No Mano and Cream Con Pana are highly recommended!

  • Address: 1st floor, 13 Mangwon-ro, Mapo-gu, Seoul
  • Hours: 12:00 ~ 21:00 (closed on Thursdays)

Yeonhee Espresso Bar

An espresso bar with a clean and delicately tuned taste. I definitely stop by when I go for a light walk in Yeonhui-dong on the weekend morning. It is very peaceful to see the neighborhood puppies gathering and rolling around. The owner reopened the cafe in the hope that time would pile up like Yeonhui-dong, which contains old memories. The love of coffee for 17 years is melted into coffee. Be sure to try Yeonhee Espresso with jam.

  • Address: 1.5th floor, 36, Yeonhui-ro 11ga-gil, Seodaemun-gu, Seoul
  • Hours: 8:30 ~ 17:00 (Closed on Tuesdays)

Dark Edition Coffee – (Old) Router

Router Coffee, synonymous with hip local coffee. It was closed suddenly and recently reopened under the name Dark Edition Coffee. It is on the way to Yeonhui-dong after trekking to Gung-dong Park. It's like a cute hideout. What surprised me when I first visited was the countless number of single origin coffees. There is also a coffee that costs 130,000 won per cup. If you want to taste a variety of single origin filter coffee, you must visit!

  • Address: 1st floor, 12 Yeonhui-ro 11ma-gil, Seodaemun-gu, Seoul
  • Hours: 8:00 ~ 20:00 (Closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays)

From Heras

A cafe I always stopped by before going out to exercise on a weekend morning. I've been visiting since it opened. I liked the attractive artwork first, but the coffee was second to none. In particular, it is attractive that the taste of various coffee beans is expressed in a musical scale. It is a cafe where you can easily broaden the spectrum of tastes. Previously, they were dropped off by machine, but with the expansion of another branch, the machine moved and dropped them off by hand. I don't know why, but it tastes better when you pour it by hand. All of them are delicious, so I recommend you to just go and choose the flavor that suits your taste.

  • Address: 1F, 77 Yeonnam-ro, Mapo-gu, Seoul
  • Hours: 10:30 ~ 17:30 (no holidays)

Callas

Callas Coffee is a roasting company led by CEO Choi Min-geun, a coffee roasting champion. The Seongsan branch has a roasting machine, so it feels like a home base. The taste is deep and rich. In particular, the harmony between the soft milk of latte and slightly nutty coffee is excellent. Seongsan Latte, which is only available at the Seongsan branch, is so delicious that I think I was the only one who ate a lot.
