It was developed for versatile use in titles, body text, user interfaces, and code. Based on a fixed-width font where every character has the same width, it incorporates features to change character shapes and spacing depending on the application.

The ends of characters are flattened, and the curves reflect the shape of rounded rectangles. The height of lowercase letters and the shapes of numbers and symbols have also been adjusted. There are eight weight options ranging from 100 to 800, and as a variable font, intermediate weights can be finely adjusted. As of version 1.0, it includes 800 glyphs and supports over 100 languages.

The main feature is 'Duospace'. It adjusts the flow of sentences while maintaining a fixed-width impression by applying alternative glyphs that vary the width of certain characters. It also provides a separate function to narrow the spacing between words. The structure allows the same font to be configured for both code and long body text.

Ligatures that connect combinations of symbols used in code are also supported. You can select a diagonal line to distinguish the number 0 and the letter O, a small arrow, and a single-layer lowercase 'a'. You can also compose tables, shapes, and progress bars within text using 128 box-drawing characters and 32 block characters.

On the official introduction page, you can change the weight, size, line spacing, and letter spacing, and turn each function on and off to compare the results. The font files and source are publicly available and are distributed under the SIL Open Font License 1.1.

© Paper

© Paper

© Paper

© Paper

See more and sources

https://paper.design/mono
https://github.com/paper-design/paper-mono

Paper has released the free open-source font Paper Mono.
