This is the new default app icon design that Apple applied to iOS 27. iOS 27 was released on September 14, 2026, and the new icons were unveiled starting with the WWDC developer beta in June. While maintaining the Liquid Glass design introduced in iOS 26, Apple readjusted the shape and layer representation of the icons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The key change is the reduction of the blurry glass texture and the strengthened distinction between the app symbol and the background. In developer documentation, Apple explained that app icons are composed of multiple layers and react to the system's lighting and visual effects. Basic, Dark, Clear, and Tinted styles are also available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the beta phase, icons for Safari, Siri, Settings, App Store, Remote, and Preview were additionally changed. Safari uses a brighter blue color and detailed compass lines, while the Siri icon was adjusted to resemble an actual Siri bubble. It has been reported that the sparkle effect that appeared when moving the device in iOS 26 has been removed in the iOS 27 beta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This change is not so much a complete overhaul of the graphic style, but rather an organization of Liquid Glass into the internal structure of the icon. It utilizes translucent layers, refraction effects, and edge highlights, while placing the lines and colors necessary to convey the app's function further forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
