The previous wordmark had been in use since 2016. Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri unveiled the new design on August 13, explaining that it was time to refine the wordmark as it had not changed for 10 years. This change centers on the wordmark displaying the name &#039;Instagram,&#039; rather than the app icon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The new wordmark reduces the existing connected cursive structure and mixes in letter forms closer to print. The first letter &#039;I&#039; and some strokes retain the handwritten characteristics of the previous wordmark. Describing this as a more concise and modern form, Mosseri stated that he referenced the simplicity and handcrafted nature of the existing Instagram.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Instagram design team announced that they have updated their brand system along with the wordmark. During the design process, they reviewed various wordmark designs with different weights and shapes. The final design adopted a structure where the shapes of each letter are more independently distinguishable than before. Immediately after the reveal, some users have shared their opinions regarding the way the new letters are connected and their readability. This marks a reversal of Instagram&#039;s iconic textual assets, which had been maintained for 10 years since the major identity change in 2016.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image
