Naver is expanding its conversational search service, 'AI Tab,' to all users. Previously, it was provided on a limited basis, primarily to Naver Plus membership users. Naver plans to extend the service to general users starting next month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The AI tab operates differently from the existing search results page. When a user enters a question, the AI displays a summarized answer instead of a list of links. If the user follows up with additional questions, the conversation continues while maintaining the previous context. This represents a move to transform Naver, which previously had a search bar-centric structure, into an AI-based interface.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Naver also plans to add a Smart Lens feature to the AI tab. When a user takes a photo or uploads an image, the AI analyzes the object and provides relevant information. This is an attempt to integrate not only text search but also image-based search into the AI workflow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This change is closer to a shift in search structure than a simple addition of features. Naver is actively utilizing its own content, such as blogs, cafes, and Knowledge iN, for AI responses. There is also a possibility that the reliance on Naver's internal ecosystem will increase compared to external web search.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The user experience also changes. Previously, users had to open multiple links to compare information, but with the AI tab, they can check summarized answers first and then explore further if necessary. This can shorten the search process itself. On the other hand, from the perspective of content producers, there is also a possibility that the impact of reduced clicks will increase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A trend among domestic platforms to restructure their entire search ecosystem around AI is gaining momentum. This direction is similar to that of global services such as Google, Perplexity, and OpenAI. Naver also unveiled a plan to invest 1 trillion won in content over the next five years to respond to the AI era.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
