Gemini Live is a voice-centric feature that allows users to converse with Gemini in real time. In this test, instead of the existing full-screen interface, a pill-shaped bar floating on the screen serves as the central UI for Gemini Live.

The new interface responds to user touch. According to reports, pressing the pill-shaped bar causes it to move like an animation, and it also displays a reaction that looks like it is "waving its hand" in response to user gestures. This marks a change where Gemini Live moves away from a simple voice input screen and becomes closer to a smaller interactive object that displays status and reactions during a conversation.

Google has already been working to transform Gemini Live from a full-screen experience into a lighter form. In February 2026, a floating fill design began to be rolled out on Android, and in April, a new design that replaces the full screen within Gemini apps was shown to select beta users. This test is an example of extending that flow in a more interactive way.

The key to this change is that the AI assistant takes up less screen space while maintaining its presence. Users can converse with Gemini without completely leaving the app, and Gemini displays the current conversation status in the form of a small bar. While existing voice assistants typically switched to a separate screen, the new Gemini Live is closer to an auxiliary interface mounted on top of the Android screen.

From a product design perspective, it demonstrates the direction of AI interfaces. As AI increasingly operates across multiple apps and screens, full-screen chatbot UIs alone are insufficient. We need interfaces that float subtly above the user's workflow, expand when needed, and naturally indicate whether they are speaking or listening. Gemini Live's new interactive bar is an experiment aligned with this direction.

This feature currently appears to be in limited testing. No official release schedule or supported devices have been disclosed. However, considering that Google is simultaneously strengthening Gemini Intelligence, Gemini in Chrome, and Android automation features, it is highly likely that Gemini Live will also evolve into an AI interface that is invoked more frequently within Android.

More and Sources

https://www.androidauthority.com/google-gemini-live-interactive-bar-3667315

구글이 Gemini Live의 새로운 인터랙티브 경험을 테스트하고 있습니다.
