Samsung Electronics is rolling out a major software update for select Bespoke AI Family Hub refrigerator models currently on sale in the United States. This update targets refrigerators equipped with the 32-inch Family Hub screen and will be applied sequentially starting May 11.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The biggest change is the expansion of AI capabilities. Through this update, Samsung enhances AI Vision, a food recognition feature; Bixby, a voice control feature; and Now Brief, a personalized daily widget. Existing users can access these features simply by updating the software, without having to purchase a new product.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The AI Food Manager utilizes AI vision capabilities developed with Google Gemini. Previously, it recognized primarily 40 pre-trained food items, but following this update, it can identify a wider variety of fresh and packaged foods. For packaged foods, it uses OCR technology to read brand names and product information. This allows for more accurate management of the food inventory inside the refrigerator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It analyzes usage patterns to notify users when to restock frequently consumed foods. It also sends notifications when ingredients the user frequently eats are running low to help with grocery planning. Samsung explained that this feature can help with managing ingredients and reducing food waste.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bixby also features more natural conversational control capabilities. Users can operate refrigerator functions using everyday speech without having to memorize predefined commands. For example, if you say, \u201cMake round ice cubes for my drink,\u201d Bixby turns on Sphere Ice mode. If you say, \u201cMake the refrigerator colder when the weather gets hot,\u201d it will ask about the outside temperature conditions and then set up a Power Cool routine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now Brief, the default daily screen on the Family Hub, is also being expanded. Features such as popular recipe videos, recommendations based on ingredients frequently used last week, and menu suggestions based on the contents of the refrigerator are being added. The refrigerator screen is evolving beyond a simple information display to become a tool for meal planning and family schedule management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Voice recognition-based personalization features are also included. By recognizing a family member's voice, you can display that user's calendar events, birthdays and anniversaries, interest-based news, health data, and more. Up to six accounts can be registered on a single device.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This update will be rolled out starting with select models in the United States. Samsung plans to gradually expand the feature to 9-inch AI Home models and other global markets throughout 2026. Feature support and the update schedule may vary depending on the product model, region, account settings, and network environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
