Daum has brought back its real-time search service after six years. However, the name is not the "Real-time Search" of the past, but "Real-time Trend." AXZ, the operator of Daum, launched the beta service on March 3. Keywords ranked from 1st to 10th are displayed at the top right of the homepage search bar, and the rankings are updated every 10 minutes. This effectively marks Daum's return to the forefront of real-time issues, following various alternative experiments conducted after discontinuing the Real-time Search service in February 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The key point of this change is that it is not a mere restoration of past real-time search rankings. AXZ explained that Real-time Trends is a service that combines the technologies of Today Bubble and AI Issue Briefing. By collecting search logs and news documents together, it reflects both trending topics and new mention volumes, rather than just a single search volume. It also applies channel diversity correction, which gives higher scores to issues covered simultaneously by multiple media outlets. Furthermore, keyword arrangement is refined into a format that is easy for people to understand using a proprietary model.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The most sensitive areas are, as expected, manipulation and elections. Daum announced that it counts repeated searches by the same user as a single instance and excludes searches by bots or automated programs. Additionally, it applies a principle of excluding keywords related to candidates and figures from rankings starting 60 days before the election. It has also implemented safeguards to temporarily suspend real-time updates if abnormal signs are detected. This signifies its intention to prioritize service reliability over real-time performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This redesign moves in tandem with the restoration of the logo. Daum announced through an official notice that it has brought back its four-color logo. This decision reflects user feedback that the "Daum-ness" of the brand had diminished since the introduction of the monochrome UI. The company explained that this is not a verbatim replication of the past, but rather a refinement of the design to suit the present while maintaining familiarity. The simultaneous return of real-time trends and the four-color logo is closer to a restoration of brand identity than a simple addition of features. This is because it is an attempt to clearly re-establish Daum's presence, which had faded for some time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
