Volvo has created a new font for safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On December 19, 2025, Volvo Cars unveiled Volvo Centum, a dedicated typeface designed for safety and readability. Volvo said it collaborated with global type studio Dalton Margh to develop the font, which aims to improve readability and visibility in vehicle interfaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Volvo explained that they focused on reducing visual noise by adjusting details like letter curves, stroke endings, and even kerning. The goal is to reduce driver distraction by delivering clearer information in a readable environment. Volvo UX Creative Director Matthew Hall stated that every detail of the interface is an opportunity to support safer driving, and typography is a powerful yet underrated tool.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Volvo Centum is designed to be used consistently across multiple platforms, not just on in-car screens. Volvo says the typeface supports over 800 languages, including complex scripts like Chinese, Arabic, Japanese, and Korean. Zeynep Akai, creative director at Dalton Marg, said typography, designed for readability in motion, requires a different mindset and is designed to operate at speeds up to 100 kilometers per hour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Volvo said Centum will first be featured in the next-generation electric SUV, the Volvo EX60, before expanding to other vehicle models and digital touchpoints. The name Centum refers to Volvo's 100th anniversary, scheduled for 2027.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
