LEGO unveiled its Smart Play System at CES 2026. It incorporates sensors, lights, and speakers within standard 2x4 bricks, allowing them to react instantly to movement and surrounding elements. LEGO explained that this interaction was achieved without a screen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the heart of the Smart Brick is a custom ASIC chip smaller than a stud. It houses an accelerometer, an array of LEDs, and a mini speaker, and uses near-field magnetic sensing to recognize Smart Tag tiles and Smart Minifigures. Multiple bricks are connected via a Bluetooth-based BrickNet, allowing them to share their status. LEGO also says it supports wireless charging, eliminating the need for cables in completed builds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first products to be released are the LEGO Star Wars trio. Pre-orders begin on January 9th, with official sales starting on March 1st. Darth Vader's TIE Fighter is 473 pieces and priced at $69.99. Luke's Red Five X-wing is 584 pieces and priced at $89.99. The Thrawn Loom Duel and A-wing are 962 pieces and priced at $159.99.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

LEGO emphasizes that this technology is designed to go beyond just a "complete toy with sound and light." Depending on the tag's digital ID, engine sounds, lasers, and lightsaber sounds will change, and the Emperor's theme will also play. Star Wars collaboration partners also noted that the technology can be used to expand the narrative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
